LEIXLIP, Ireland, December 11, 2013 - The Horizon 2020 work programme has been launched and the first calls for proposals have been opened. The research and innovation programme has an agreed budget of more than 70b, with a focus on growth and jobs creation in Europe.

Horizon 2020 will support research and innovation across three pillar objectives: excellence in science, industrial leadership and social challenges. The programme focuses on market impact, which will play its part in enabling Europe's society and economy to be technology-leading, more sustainable and inclusive.

“Horizon 2020 represents a paradigm shift in European research funding and is a massive opportunity to turbocharge the European Innovation ecosystem”, stated Martin Curley, vice president and director of Intel Labs Europe. “The increased focus on helping accelerate high potential innovations to market will help European industry as well as increase the return on investment for the broader European community. Intel looks forward in engaging in the programme and supporting this vision for Europe.”

Intel Labs Europe has been an active and constant player throughout European Framework Programme 7, having engaged positively in numerous collaborative projects with hundreds of European industry and academic partners.  The range of collaborative research and innovation involved has been extensive. This includes future cloud computing, mobility, nano electronics, exascale computing and open source technologies, topics that remain important within Horizon 2020.

In summary we warmly welcome the opportunity that comes with Horizon 2020. We are excited about the prospect of further collaborations that will help realise, through knowledge creation, people capability and capacity building, the programme’s objectives.
